How to dispose of
your sachet & pyramid

Chosen to protect good tea. Designed for a considered next step.

Hotel guests

Please place your sachet and used pyramid in your room waste bin, unless your hotel provides a separate collection or different instructions. The hotel team will collect them and arrange disposal through the hotel’s waste service.

If a dedicated bin is provided for compostable sachets and teabags, please use it as directed. If you are unsure, ask housekeeping or reception.

The disposal route depends on your hotel’s collection arrangements. Putting these items in a room waste bin does not necessarily mean they will be composted.

At home

Add your sachet and used pyramid to your food-waste collection only if your council or collection provider explicitly accepts these compostable packaging items. A food-waste collection alone does not guarantee acceptance.

Our planned sachet and pyramid are intended for industrial composting, not home composting. They need the sustained warmth, moisture and microbial activity of a suitable composting facility.

If your collection does not accept them, or you are unsure, put them in general waste. Keep the sachet and pyramid out of paper and plastic recycling and your home compost heap.

You can empty the tea leaves into your home compost; the sachet and mesh need a separate disposal route. Always follow your pack’s instructions.

Pre-launch guidance for our planned packaging. Final specifications and evidence for the finished sachet, pyramid, string and tag are being checked before sale. Always follow the instructions on your particular pack.

01 / The plant-based pyramid

Silky mesh.
Space for whole leaves.

Our planned FUSO pyramid uses NeoSoilon®, a fine woven mesh made from PLA, a plant-derived polymer produced from sugarcane. Its silky appearance comes from the mesh; it is not silk.

The pyramid shape gives premium whole leaves room to open, while the permeable mesh lets water circulate. The material is designed for hot-water brewing and stays intact during a normal infusion.

Plant-based describes its origin. It does not mean that the material dissolves in your cup or breaks down quickly in a garden compost heap.

02 / Why industrial composting?

It takes the
right conditions.

A brief infusion in near-boiling water is very different from composting. Breakdown needs sustained warmth, moisture and microbial activity over time, rather than heat alone.

Industrial composting provides controlled conditions, typically around 55–60°C. Home compost heaps are usually cooler and less consistent. The supplier describes NeoSoilon® as suitable for industrial composting.

The same distinction matters for our paper-based sachet: the finished envelope includes functional barrier and sealing layers. Its disposal route depends on the complete construction, not just the paper you can see.

Industrial compostability does not mean an item will break down in the sea, as litter or in landfill. Collection services must accept the particular packaging.

03 / The paper-based sachet

Protecting the tea
until you’re ready.

Our sachet is designed for food contact and an airtight, hermetic seal. Its barrier construction helps protect the tea’s flavour and aroma before brewing. Three things deserve particular attention:

01

Humidity

The sealed barrier helps keep moisture out, protecting dry tea from damp storage conditions.

02

Light

The opaque sachet shields the leaf from light during storage.

03

Heat

Keep sachets in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Cool storage remains essential, even in a sealed envelope.

04 / Why this approach?

Freshness matters.
So does what follows.

We have considered home-compostable sachets. For Folium, any alternative needs to combine a reliable food-safe seal, effective protection and evidence that our teas stay fresh throughout their intended shelf life.

Before changing materials, we would need consistent results for the particular envelope and tea combination. A home-compostable label alone does not establish how well a sachet will preserve our teas.

We will keep reviewing suitable options as materials and evidence develop.

Your disposal checklist

After brewing

  1. Check the pack. Use the disposal instructions for the sachet and pyramid you have.
  2. Check your collection. At a hotel, follow the Hotel guests guidance above and any instructions provided by the hotel. At a workplace, ask the team which bin to use. At home, check your council or waste operator’s rules for compostable packaging.
  3. Compost only where accepted. If the collection does not explicitly accept these items, use general waste. Do not put the sachet or pyramid in paper or plastic recycling, or your home compost heap.

You can empty the tea leaves into a home compost heap; the sachet and mesh need a separate disposal route.
